Sunday, February 5, 3PM – Alice Millar Birthday Concert.  Alice Millar Chapel, 1870 Sheridan Road, Evanston.  Alice Millar Chapel Choir and Soloists, Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra, Eric Budzynski – organist, Stephen Alltop – conductor.  Admission is free.  An offering will be received.  Salve Regina in F Major, D. 223 – Franz Schubert, First Symphony for Organ and Orchestra – Alexandre Guilmant, Mass No. 5 in A-flat,  D. 678 – Franz Schubert.  Schubert’s Mass in A-flat is the most sweeping and grandiose of his six mass settings, with music that seamlessly blends gorgeous passages for solo quartet and chorus.  Schubert’s forward-looking harmonies and arching structures instill this masterwork with majesty and awe.  The simple and heartfelt Salve Regina in F Major for soprano soloist and orchestra begins the concert.  Alexandre Guilmant was a virtuoso of the French Romantic school.  His First Symphony for Organ and Orchestra is powerful, fiery, and full of distinctive colors.

Sunday, February 5, 5:30PM – Organ Recital and Evensong.  Cathryn Wilkinson, organist.  Hear the lovely Walker tracker organ for 30 minutes preceding the service of Evensong, followed by a light dinner.  Program:  Sanctuary, a work commissioned from Gwyneth Walker by the AGO; March on a Theme of Handel by Guilmant, and two chorales from the Klavier-Ubung.  St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 393 N. Main Street, Glen Ellyn (two blocks south of Metra).

Sunday, February 12, 4PM – Choral Evensong.   Andrew Lewis, choirmaster.   Followed by an organ demonstration and recital, Christine Kraemer, organist.  Second program in a series celebrating the 90th anniversary year of Saint Luke's E.M.
